Residents living south of Brainerd Road / Lee Hwy area of Chattanooga

AND NEW STARTING JANUARY 2026

Residents in Missionary Ridge, Ridgedale, and Highland Park

The City of Chattanooga is sponsoring this pilot. It is completely free for residents! We will collect glass from your curb in a snazzy yellow bin each month during the pilot period.

The initial pilot period is planned from October 2025 to June 2026.

Chattanooga residents recycle less than 10 percent of glass waste, which sends thousands of tons to landfill each year. Joining this pilot helps extend landfill life, build a circular economy, and strengthen the case for city-wide glass recycling.

Background

We are working toward a more sustainable Chattanooga, starting with glass

What happened to curbside glass recycling in the City of Chattanooga?

  • Before 2018, residents and businesses could recycle glass in the blue curbside bin.

  • Collection, sorting, and limited local markets made the program difficult to sustain, so curbside glass was discontinued in 2018.

  • The city surveyed almost 4,000 residents at that time. Highlights are below.

Survey Highlights

Most respondents recycled glass before service ended.

Most respondents willing to use a separate bin.

The majority would not take glass to a drop-off center.
